About Altered
How does it play?

Each player leads two Expeditions — one for their Hero, one for their Companion — that travel towards each other across the board. The first player to reunite their Hero and Companion in the same region wins. No hit points to drain: victory comes from positioning, timing and strategy.

Between the two camps lies the Tumult — a line of face-down biome cards that flip as your Expeditions advance. Each biome favours one of three region types: Forest, Mountain or Water. Every character has distinct stats for each type, making the right card in the right biome the central decision of every turn.

You play from both a Hand and a Reserve — a second, face-up pool of cards deployable at a different cost. Cards played from the Reserve gain the Fleeting trait and vanish at end of turn unless they are a Permanent, forcing constant trade-offs between speed and staying power.

Cards come in three rarities: Common, Rare and Unique. Unique cards are algorithmically generated — each one individually designed and printed, existing only once in the world. Every physical card carries its own QR code to claim digital ownership in the Altered app. When you trade a card, the digital ownership transfers with it.

Choose your faction

As one of the Heroes of your faction, you embody its philosophy and ideals. Each faction plays differently, favoring some mechanics over others in order to move forward.

There are six factions in Altered, each created by Equinox with a unique identity and playstyle. Your deck can only contain cards from the same faction.
